Hydrocolloid Wound Dressing

General Description

Hydrocolloid dressings have a unique design. They contain gel-forming agents (a gelatin or sodium carboxymethylcellulose) held within an adhesive compound, The end product is an advanced wound dressing that resembles an absorbent.

The aim of this type of dressing is to provide a moist healing environment and insulation while using the body’s own moisture and enzymes to keep the wound bed hydrated for proper wound healing. The dressing does this by absorbing wound exudate and forming a gel, and the properties of the gel depend on the agents contained within the compound; one may create a cohesive coagulate, while another might produce a less viscous, waterier gel. These products are generally available with or without adhesive borders and in a wide variety of thicknesses.

Intended Use

Is intended for use on burns, wounds that are emitting liquid as a primary dressing for exuding wounds that acts as a barrier to bacterial penetration, for use on first and second degree burns, surgical wounds, pressure ulcers, dermal ulcers, as well as minor cuts, abrasions, lacerations..

Product Features

  • The polymers and polysaccharides in hydrocolloids absorb the moisture and swell up When they come in contact with excess fluids from the wound.
  • Is an occlusive or semi-occlusive dressing that contains gel-forming agents like carboxymethylcellulose, gelatin or pectin. It forms a gel-like substance on contact with wound exudate that promotes autolytic debridement and provides a moist wound healing environment.
  • Impermeable to protect against bacteria and other outside invaders
  • Doesn’t adhere to the wound, only the surrounding skin, thereby keeping healed skin intact
  • Easy to apply to wound site
  • Can be used in conjunction with venous compression products
  • Minimal disruption to healing as it needs to be changed only once every several days
  • Painless during change of the dressing
  • The dressings may be left in place for three to seven days

Foam Based Wound Dressing

General Description

Foam dressings are designed to meet one of the main goals of wound care: creating a moist environment conducive to wound healing. They’re generally made from semipermeable polyurethane, so they’re non adherent and non-linting and the dressings allow water vapor to enter but keep out bacteria and other contaminants. The outer layer may be waterproof or hydrophobic. Foam dressings are available in various sizes and shapes. Some have adhesive tape, or borders, around the edges for easier application

Intended Use

FOAM dressing can work incredibly well, as well as for injuries that exhibit odors. Foam dressings absorb exudates from the wound’s surface, as protect the affected area from outside invaders such as bacteria and, ideally, create an environment that will support healthy healing, are an effective tool for moist wound healing and are particularly useful in preventing dressing-related trauma, managing exuding wounds, and minimizing dressing discomfort and pain.

Product Features

  • Foam dressings is that they help maintain a moist wound environment
  • Important is that foam helps cushion the wound and peri-wound area from additional trauma
  • Providing thermal insulation for wounds
  • Easy to apply and remove
  • Foam dressings don’t cause wound trauma
  • Provide a barrier against bacteria
  • Can be used in the case of infection
  • Are suitable for wounds with hyper granulation
  • May be used during compression therapy

Gel Based Wound Dressing

General Description

Gel Dressing is bacteria and fungi binding dressing covered with gel. It consists of a  wound contact layer based gel. Gel Dressing donates moisture, enables a moist wound environment and facilitates autolytic debridement.

Intended Use

Gel Dressing is intended for use in management of clean, contaminated, colonized or infected wounds with dry to low exudate levels, such as traumatic wounds, burns, cavity wounds, fistulas, pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers and foot and leg ulcers.

Product Features

  • Foam dressings is that they help maintain a moist wound environment
  • An excellent source for providing moisture to a dry lesion, hydrogel dressings act fast to help cool down a wound
  • Provide temporary relief from pain for up to six hours
  • Can be used in the case of infection
  • Easy to apply and remove
